Adela superior at Tunis Youth Contender

compass-supported Adela Brhelova from Czechia was clearly superior in the U13 singles event at the WTT Youth Contender in Tunis, Tunisia. She only lost four points in total over three games in the final!

At the Tunis Youth Contender, which took place from the 2nd to the 5th of February, Adela Brhelova, aged 12, won the U13 singles event with ease. She won all four of her group matches in the qualifying stage, losing no more than six points in any game. In the knockout phase, she defeated Mayar Akrouti and Ritej Chebbi from the host nation in straight games, before winning the final 11:1, 11:1, 11:2 against Lilia Beddou from Algeria. Adela’s victory may be the most dominant final win in WTT Youth history.

In the U15 singles, Adela reached the top eight, defeating Mayar Akrouti in the round of 16 before losing to Rokaia Elbaz of Qatar in straight sets.

Impressive performance by Ladimir

Ladimir Mayorov also impressed at the Tunis Youth Contender, reaching the semifinals of the U15s singles event and the quarterfinals of the U17s singles event.

In the U15s, he won his qualifying group and then eliminated Sung Chen (Austria) 3:1, Quentin Sandona (France) 3–0, and Onur Guluzade (Azerbaijan) 3:1 in the quarterfinals. Onur is ranked 27th in the world. However, Malaysia’s Lai Yong Ren proved slightly too strong in the semifinal, defeating “Ladi” 3:2, 11:9 in the decider.

Remarkably, despite being only 12 years old, Ladimir reached the quarterfinals of the U17 singles, competing against players up to five years older. In the knockout stage, he defeated Max Radiven (England) 3:1 and Pietro Campagna (Italy) in straight sets, before losing to Hong Kong’s Li Ki Ho 0:3.

compass-supported Siri Benjegård of Sweden also made it to the last 32 in the U19 singles. Jeffrey Wei of Germany made it to the last 16 in the U15 singles.
