Gold for Ladimir at the Tunis Youth Star Contender

Ladimir Mayorov won the U15 singles at the WTT Youth Star Contender, held in Tunis, Tunisia from 6th to 8th February. The 13-year-old Spaniard, who is supported by compass, defeated Onur Guluzade of Azerbaijan 3:1 in the final.

Ladimir also won a silver medal in the U15 mixed doubles, partnering with Eva Lam of France, and a bronze medal in the U15 boys’ doubles, partnering with Louis Fegerl of Austria.

Ladimir Mayorov was the fourth seed in the U15 singles event. After winning his qualifying group, he reached the final without losing a single game, following clear victories over Filip Nagy of Slovakia, Abdulrahman Al Taher of Saudi Arabia and Louis Fegerl. In the final, he faced Onur Guluzade from Azerbaijan and won with a score of 11:1, 11:6, 9:11, 11:8.

“We are very happy that the new year has started with such a victory,” commented Ladimir’s father and coach, Eduard Mayorov. “This is Ladimir’s first win at a WTT Youth Star Contender event. It was very tough, with every match full of emotion. Ladimir was determined to win as he had never achieved a victory like this before. All the matches were challenging as the tournament brought together the best players, but he managed to keep his nerves under control.”

“Ladimir is very happy that his hard work has paid off,” Eduard Mayorov continued. “We really hope that, with the support of everyone, we can help Ladimir continue to achieve great results.”

Siri top eight

compass-supported Siri Benjegård from Sweden reached the quarterfinals of the U15 singles event, losing 1:3 to Dania Mohd. Jeffrey Wei from Germany and Adela Brhelová from Czechia also took part in the Star Contender contest. However, none of them managed to qualify for the knockout stage of the U15 singles events.
