The first World Junior Championships were played in 2003. In 2021, an U15 category was also included and the tournament changed its name to the World Youth Championships (WYC). China has dominated the medal table, winning an impressive 262 medals over the years. Second place goes to Japan with 123.5 medals. The best performing European countries so far have been Germany with 33.5 medals and France with 32.

Steven Moreno is competing in three events: singles, doubles and mixed doubles. He pairs with compatriot Enrique Rios in doubles and with compatriot Edmarie Leon in mixed doubles.

Perfect preparation

“We had a good rehearsal at the WTT Youth Contender in Szombathely earlier this month,” comments Marco Faso, Danilo’s father and coach. “Danilo won the U17 category in Hungary, defeating two Chinese players on his way to the title. This was the perfect way for him to gain confidence before the World Youth Championships.”
