Several medals for compass at Star Contender in Metz
Görkem Öcal won gold in doubles and bronze in U15 singles.
Danilo Faso was in the last 8 in the U19 singles, the last 4 in the U15 singles and a finalist in the U15 doubles. And a bronze for Siri Benjegård in the U15 doubles.
These were the best results of the compass-supported players at the WTT Youth Star Contender which took place in Metz, France from 11.-13.04.

The WTT Youth Star Contender is a high level competition where only the best ranked players can participate. In the U15 doubles, Görkem Öcal teamed up with his Turkish compatriot Kenan Kahraman. They beat Nolan Johnstone/Noah Tessier 3:1 and compass alumni Kacper Piwowar/Abraham Sellado of England in straight games in the semi-finals.
In the final, they were up against a compass player – Danilo Faso of Italy, partnered by his compatriot Francesco Trevisan. The Italians were leading 2:1, but the Turkish constellation turned the match around by winning the last two games 11:8, 11:2.
Danilo and Görkem top 4
Danilo beat Aylan Goudjil of Algeria 3:1 and then Kenan Kahraman of Turkey 3:2. In the semi-finals he lost in straight games to compass alumnus Emanuel Otalvaro, who went on to win the tournament in impressive style. Görkem Öcal also made it to the last four. Görkem beat Frenchman Noah Terrier 3:0 and Chinese Zhou Kaien 3:1 before losing to Indian Shouren Soman 2:3 in the semi-finals.

“The WTT Star Contender events are high stakes tournaments in the WTT youth circuit,” commented compass managing director Daniel Zwickl. “It was pleasing to see that our supported players, especially Görkem and Danilo, performed well in the U15, but also in the U19 category. Congratulations to Emanuel Otalvaro (compass alumni and supported player between 2022 – 2024) and his coach Camilo Giraldo for the impressive win in the U15 category”.
Siri won a medal in doubles
Danilo was impressive in the U19 singles, beating Antoine Noirault of France before losing 3:1 to Yang Hao-Jan of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals for players born in 2006 or later, Danilo being four years younger.

In the U15 mixed doubles, Ladimir Mayorov and his compatriot Renata Shypsha reached the quarter-finals. So did Görkem with Mariia Lytvyn from Austria.
Sweden’s Siri Benjegård also played with Shypsha in the U15 doubles and the Swedish-Spanish pair reached the semi-finals where they were beaten in straight games by Alexi Nodin/Lou-Anne Bocquet of France.

In the U15 singles, Ladimir Mayorov of Spain made it through the group stage before losing his first knockout match to Matthew Kuti of Nigeria.
